Hotel | NABJ's Media Institute on Health, Health Policy and Health Inequities
is the only conference of its kind to focus exclusively on health
disparities in communities of color and provide print, broadcast and
digital journalists with tools to effectively report on the impact of
health care reform and health policy on underserved communities.
Journalists and media professionals will leave with resources to inform
and empower readers and viewers to action.
This 5th Annual Media Institute has garnered headlines and the attention of
newsmakers in the fight to bring awareness to health and health care disparity.
Previous keynote presenters at the conference have included; Secretary
of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Surgeon General
Regina Benjamin, M.D., Former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, M.D.,
Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children's Defense
Fund, and Phill Wilson, founder of the Black AIDS Institute.
Topics addressed at the Media Institute will include the social determinants of health, creative community solutions
to health care access and prevention, newly enacted provisions of the Affordable Care
Act and HIV/AIDS in the black community. Previous conference have addressed mental health, childhood obesity,
and infant mortality.
On
Thursday, April 4th, registered attendees will participate in a
White House Briefing on Consumer Health from
Administration officials. Each
registrant who wishes to attend this portion of the program should call
NABJ Membership Manager Veronique Dodson at (301) 405-0554 with their
Social Security number, date of birth, full name and current address as listed on valid government-issued identification by
March 27 to be added to the security clearance list.(NOTE:
You will not be able to attend the tour or briefing if you are not
registered for the Health Conference, if you miss the security clearance
deadline, if you are not approved by the White House or if the
government-issued ID presented on April 4th has expired.)
